Mr. Christopher Laplante is a Reliability Engineer at Qualmark Corporation in Denver, Colorado.  He has been working as a Reliability Engineer for over ten years, first in analysis then most recently in applications, technical support and HALT and HASS training.  He holds a BSEE from Western New England College in Springfield, Massachusetts.  Mr. Laplante can be reached at claplante@qualmark.com .

I am group leader for material testing at Siemens Industrial Turbomachinery. Our business designs, manufactures and services small industrial gas turbines with power outputs in the range of 5 to 15MW for power generation and mechanical drive application. My group’s role is to support the development and integrity of our products through materials research and quality assurance programmes, predominantly through creep and fatigue testing. I joined Siemens after graduating from the University of Nottingham, and have over 10 years’ experience in the field of materials testing, and I’m a Chartered Engineer with the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining.

Dr David Marks is a Senior Materials Engineer in Uniper Technologies Limited’s (UTG) Integrity and Inspection Solutions Department. David’s role is to manage a wide range of materials engineering based activities such as R&D, failure investigations and component life assessments. David joined UTG in 2009 following Senior Engineer roles in engineering consultancies including TWI Ltd and The Ministry of Defence. David is a Chartered Engineer and a Member of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining. David holds a degree in Materials Science and Engineering and a PhD in polymer composites from the University of Sheffield.

Adam has been with Goodfellow for over 3 years in a number of roles covering most materials. Much of his experience has been in the ceramics and glass division and has had an active role in Goodfellow’s development of new materials ranges like Graphene and powders for AM. He hold an honours degree in Chemistry from the University of Sheffield.

Getting beyond numerical results for testing electric and hybrid drive trains

Evaluating motor efficiency has become extremely important since significant efforts are focused on more efficient electrical machines and drives. The main issue is how to implement an accelerated procedure that obtains the motor and drive efficiency for all operating points safely, accurately and rapidly.

To get beyond numerical results, all electrical, mechanical and physical signals must be acquired simultaneously at high sample rates coupled with advanced real time custom analysis and fast data transfer to automation systems, making it possible to perform efficiency mapping accurately and rapidly, as well as almost any type of advanced analysis.

Omer Mir – Applications Engineer

Omer Mir was born in Harrow, London. He studied at Brunel University and Southbank University, London. He received a BEng(hons) in Electronic and Electrical Engineering in 2003.

He commenced his professional career as an Applications Engineer for LEM. Since then he has held this role for various other employers within the Test & Measurement industry.

In 2015 Omer began the role of Applications Engineer for HBM. His specialism is Genesis High Speed and he is based within the eDrive Focus Team.

He is also an active member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology.

His Interests lie within Power Electronics, Electrical Machines and Drives, Power Efficiency and Loss Analysis, AC Transmission Systems, High Voltage and Transient Testing.
